Today Is The Day

Today is the day we walked away and left our home behind, as the stars marred our hearts and tore our land apart, like we were forsaken by the divine. The winds were no more as the trees fell to silence, gripping the terrain as it shattered.

Not that it mattered.

We were once bold, callous, callow, and unbelievable in our atrocities. We continually gave in to our curiosities of the superficial, building missile after missile. Guiding them to war and striking down our brethren in an attempt to prove that heaven waited only for our call.

It didn't matter after all.

When every gun was fired and each casing dropped, no soldier was tired and no foray was stopped. The evil that took o'er, bleeding outward from the sea line to the shore. Every man in charge from General to Lord, kept asking for more, more, more. Any humble man could see what was in store, but those in power that empowered had let their gold build like flowers in a field. It caused each body, like mulch, to give it's maximum yield. Yet we couldn't see what we did, for those that kept us accountable, we're dead or they hid.

It wasn't until the chaos became scriptures and the unmentionable acts held in our brains as unforgettable pictures. The slaying, the slain, and those who slew began to look at their hands stained red and wondered what to do. But before reflection and peace was inspired, the fault in our actions had already wired our ending and fixed our demise.

Because of our ignorance, we had to take to the skies.

Heaven opened it's doors in a spurious rapture, as the arks were filled with mankind and the beasts we could capture. The engines roared and the atmosphere poured us out into the vastness of space.

That's when it stopped being a race.

We were aloft and stranded, but given a brand new lease. All of our fighting, all of our grief... destroyed so much that it gave us peace.

Peace.
