Moonlight

"You shine brightly tonight, my lord" she says with her eyes closed looking up towards the heavens, the moonlight illuminating the falling snow as well as her silky white coat. A snowflake lands on her snout and catches her by surprise and she opens her eyes to look at the frozen tears of her lover raining down on her.

"Someday."

She lets out a long, hopeful howl, beckoning him to somehow return to earth. She knows it won't help, but for the pack's sake she stays ever-optimistic. She looks to the mountain, its summit covered by the clouds. No one in the pack has ever ventured up to the summit; there's never been a need, but she needs to even if just for the sake of closure. How far towards the heavens does the mountain reach? Maybe, just maybe she can reach him at the top. Maybe she can save her lover, and ultimately the pack, her family, from the despair that's plagued them since her mate's departure.

Maybe.

She lets out one last long howl before racing as fast as she can up the mountainside. She feels a boost of energy and determination as she hears the pack howling for her, cheering her on and motivating her as she glides through the snow.
